Pharos INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE

The Pharos International Institute for Science, Arts and Culture (referred to as the Pharos Institute) was founded in 2022 in Stari Grad on the island of Hvar (Pharos) by a group of professors, researchers and artists from Croatia, Austria, Australia, and the United States to create a center of knowledge and culture that will serve current and future generations of Stari Grad, Hvar, and the Dalmatian region.

The mission of the Pharos Institute is to serve as a center of knowledge and culture for both current and future generations of Stari Grad, Hvar, Dalmatia, and beyond.

In 2023, the founders set out to actualize the vision that would develop the Institute as a hub that promote, and inspire through knowledge and cultural heritage, providing a space for reflection and addressing social, cultural, economic, environmental, and other challenges related to the island of Hvar, as well as the broader Dalmatian and Mediterranean region.

The main approaches are based on interdisciplinary programming of the projects that includes:

  • Interdisciplinarity: Encompassing multiple scientific and/or thematic areas.
  • Innovation: Including contemporary technological approaches.
  • Global Thinking, Local Solutions: Building partnerships between local, regional, and international academic, social, and economic actors.
