On Saturday, May 24, 2025, 23 firefighters from the Stari Grad Fire Department and 8 police officers from the Hvar Police Station completed the Basic Training program in the Čitovnica area in Stari Grad. Two dentists who practice in Stari Grad and Jelsa, Dr. Marija Matijašević and Dr. Zvonimir Jukić, joined this training. The training was conducted by Dr. Hrvoje Vučemilović, Dr. Petra Bajto and Dr. Meri Mirčeta from Split, in cooperation with the Pharos International Institute for Science, Art and Culture and the Hvar Croatian Medical Center.
The entire training program was designed and organized by the heads of the Institute’s Health Department, Dr. Vesna Traljić and Dr. Vinko Bogdanić, with the aim of developing additional skills for providing first aid to teams that are among the first to respond to interventions in which citizens and tourists of our island are potentially endangered. The BLS training focuses on training emergency services workers to provide support to emergency medical teams in situations when this is necessary. This education is the first in a series of trainings and projects that the Pharos Institute plans to implement on the island of Hvar, all with the aim of improving the health care of the islanders themselves as well as our guests.
Thanks certainly go to all the firefighters of Stari Grad and their commander, the police officers of PP Hvar with their chief, GDCK Hvar and the now former Mayor of Stari Grad Mr. Antonio Škarpa for their continuous help and support in the realization of this project.
