Islands of Memory Workshop Held June 2-3

On 2 and 3 June the third Islands of Memory conference was held in Stari Grad, focusing on tourism. Ten researchers from Austria, Croatia, Germany, and Montenegro presented their work on the intertwining of tourism and memory, ranging from dark tourism to silences in tourism narratives, as well as from a transnational perspective.
In addition to academic presentations, the program included a public roundtable with approximately forty participants in cooperation with Stari Grad Museum discussing how the past can be made visible for tourism.

In addition, a workshop with school pupils from Hvar High School in Jelsa including in the program.
The third conference is part of the Mediterranean Studies department at the Pharos Institute and will be continued in 2026 with a conference on Islands on the Move, which will discuss migration and mobilities.
