Youth Association “Ferol” Stari Grad
During the summer, the Institute assisted in program planning and preparation of documentation in setting up the local youth association, “Ferol.” Application for registration as an NGO was submitted in November, and it is anticipated that the Institute will further support youth association development and programming efforts in 2025.
Recognition and Award System in Primary School
The Institute began partnering with Primary School “Petar Hektorović”, Stari Grad and Lila Mularczyk, education expert, University of New South Wales School of Education, and Deputy Director of NSW Department of Education, Australia to develop and implement an inclusive and comprehensive recognition and awards policy in primary school. The goal of this project is to celebrate students’ efforts and achievements both within and outside of school. By fostering a culture of appreciations, the policy will aim to: (1) recognize and celebrate diverse talents, accomplishments, and contributions; (2) reinforce positive behaviors and attitudes; (3) enhance student engagement, motivation, and a sense of belonging. The purpose of this system is to ensure all students feel valued and acknowledge regardless their academic achievements. In December, a working group was established and an action plan for activities for 2025.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Training for Island First Responders: Pre-Season 2025
The Project supported the existing medical service teams and infrastructure of the island by providing first responder Basic Life Support (BLS) training for cardiac arrest conditions to apoximately 30 fire and police personnel stationed on the island. Through receiving the BLS training taught by medical professionals from Split and Hvar and in cooperation with the local Red Cross and the towns of Stari Grad, Hvar, and Jelsa, the first responders increased their knowledge and ability to administer life-saving aid to those suffering life-threatening cardiac arrest conditions if emergency medical teams cannot immediately respond. The project anticipates that this training course will bolster the island’s capacity to respond to and administer life support emergency procedures when needed and hopefully provide enhanced medical outcomes if required.
